Exciting times

Well spring time has definitely arrived in Luxembourg! We went to our first BBQ on Sunday and have had generally glorious weather. Apparently it's due to rain tomorrow - typical!

F has now changed her mind from a Frozen party, just as well, to a Mister Maker/ arty party. So I am in full swing, have found ideas and just need the new financial month in order to implement them. At the same time as my business order (bisque, paint, etc) has just arrived so I guess chaos is about to ensue! ;)

Soooo apologies if you don't hear much from me in the near future but that'll be why...

22/30. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?
In 5 years’ time: Probably still living in Luxembourg, hopefully in a different home, with 2 children. I HOPE I’ll have progressed with my ideas. Healthy, happy family and friends etc. I hope I’ll be at least fluent in French, if not fluent or working on other languages. IP will be at school, Munchkin will be at school… Oh and have started things like Brownies. Ideas I hope to have progressed with are that if we’re in Luxembourg that I have successfully made a go of this blog, started my own business and got more involved with charity work, particularly re prem babies (again I will cover this more in a post later). Continued with minimalism…
10 years – um this q is tricky as we may or may not have a lotta things… We may still be in Luxembourg but then again we may have returned to the UK. If and when we return to the UK I would like to either become a PCSO or a Special Constable. If in Luxembourg then the former, I just hope to have progressed with things. I would need to be helping children with languages so hope to have improved/ be fluent in 4 languages by then – French, German, Luxembourgish and I’m already fluent in English of course!
15 years – same as above… I think my goals are pretty long term and really do depend on what we’re doing, plus life changes so quickly that anything could happen!
I initially wrote that ages ago. So now? Some of it's the same:
5 years- Have an affluent business, happy family.
10 years - Hopefully to have improved with languages. Maybe making steps towards the Police.
15 years - I'll be 46 so hopefully able to communicate in different languages easily, maintain a happy family, household as well as myself, in whatever way that is...

21/30. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and what would you do with it first?
Probably something like time travel and I’d go forward in time. I hate not knowing. But I don’t know, it may be better not to know!

Describe 3 significant memories from your childhood.
I don’t so much as have memories, as more remember certain things from photo’s or stories. Like I remember walking across the fens with my Dad but more because I’ve been told I did it and I was a bit older at the time so I remember doing it…
Other significant memories are negative so I may cover them at another time… (ie more how I feel about certain topics)

19/30. If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?
Probably somewhere like Australia, America, otherwise the UK. Somehow English speaking but hot in summer, freezing in winter. I quite like Luxembourg tho...

This is gonna have to be quick as I'm supposed to be doing a 101 things that do not include writing blog posts buttttt (written Sunday):

Insensitive comments when my oldest daughter was born.

Baking at Easter

I make a point of saying I don't do baking that often. But Ive recently discovered Ikea sell a mixture that you literally put water in the box, shake and put in the oven. Even I can cope with that!

So as f had been pretty good all morning I decided to do some baking:

Easter Holidays

I've just realised the Easter bank holiday is upon us and I haven't said what we might be getting up to! There's a reason... Last week I had a really bad cold that developed into a cough... Now my voice is going!

But that doesn't mean Hubby is letting me off... He gets cabin fever if kept in too long so demands we get out this weekend. So far the plans are:

  • I need to clean indoors then we'll probably do an Easter egg hunt indoors because it's meant to rain today.
  • Tomorrow morning I'm taking F to All Nations Church, as she went to the local Catholic church last night. Hubby is not happy about this but I feel she should learn the stories behind festivals, it's not all about chocolate. I will post more about this separately, hopefully.
  • Then he's mentioned going to an Easter festival.
  • On Easter Monday we're planning to go to the Emaischen to buy the girls another whistle... Hopefully with some friends.

  • I realised recently that each school holiday comes about every 3 months so I'm planning to spend about a day sorting our clothes each holiday and a day on the girls' toys.
  • This holiday 2 good friends are away the first week. During half term I was exhausted on the first day so I've decided not to pack too much in immediately. We did the Sushi Train on the same day as the Chocolate House. Well this time I plan to do them on separate days.
  • F recently learnt to write her own name so I've promised we'll go shopping for a pen for her. Hopefully we'll have another crafting day,
  • I've bought lots of cake mix and then we're hopefully going to do some days out with a friend.

Baby led v. Schedules

When I was pregnant with F I was determined she would be a 'Gina Ford, Contented Little Baby'. Then F arrived prematurely and my whole world was thrown upside down. She did not at all follow the schedules Gina recommended.

One day someone recommended 'Save our sleep' by Tizzie Hall. Absolutely desperate I bought the book and didn't look back. F fitted the routines perfectly up to an age where I felt safe to go it alone...

So when Z was born I assumed she'd follow the same pattern & I'd developed a hatred of Gina Ford, for all sorts of reasons. It hit me like a ton of bricks when Z wouldn't sleep through or take long naps, the way F would. In desperation I had already bought 'My contented little baby and toddler' so I read it and... Yes, it turned out that having developed a hatred of  Gina Ford, my second baby was going to betray me and be a Gina Ford baby!

What she wouldn't do is make it through the last part of the day. So in the end I did what every parent is told not to do and let her have a nap, finishing an hour before bedtime. And do you know what? It worked!

So, my baby/s is/are on combination schedule. I don't stick rigidly and we don't follow 1 pattern. But it works for us.

The other massive difference for Z is that F, if it was nap time would sleep anywhere. We could be in noisy coffee shop, I'd put her in her car seat at x time she'd be asleep. Z no way. She will a) stay awake and b) get grumpier and grumpier. She will also scream for hours. I love them both for their different personalities but if I'd had Z first, I might have thought twice or longer about having another!:)
